The Cliff Dwellers
Club welcomes those who are involved with the arts and those that
appreciate the arts. When the Club was founded more than 100 years ago,
its purpose was to serve as a convenient place where art, business, and
education can meet in a congenial environment. If you are professionally
involved with the arts and, by that, we mean arts in the broadest
sense---from literature, painting, music, architecture, sculpture or one
of the allied arts; or appreciate the arts, you should consider becoming
a member of The Cliff Dwellers Club.
The Club has two
principal classes of membership---one for those who are professionally
engaged in the arts or their allied fields and another for
non-professionals—in addition to a junior category. There is a modest
initiation fee and monthly dues are based on the membership
classification. Those who are under the age of 38 are billed at reduced
monthly dues until such time as they reach that age. For full details on
the benefits and the facilities available to members, please see the
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page elsewhere on this site.
Membership is open
to anyone twenty-five years of age or more. New members require a
sponsor and co-sponsor. If someone, perhaps new to Chicago, is unaware
of members who may know him or her, then the customary procedure is to
communicate with the Membership Committee, in care of the Club, by
letter. The message should include a statement about current or past
association with the arts, plus other basic information. (To view the
details that a sponsor must provide when proposing a prospect for
membership via the required
nomination form, click on the
underlined words.)
Also, the
Membership Committee regularly hosts a reception for Prospective
Members. This is an opportunity to learn more about the rich history of
The Cliff Dwellers and to mingle with members. If you would like more
information about the Club or to make a reservation for an upcoming
Prospective Members Reception, e-mail the Club at
cliffdwellers@cliff-chicago.org
or call the Manager at 312-922-8080.
