Operating as a not-for-profit adjunct to the club, The Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation's ongoing mission, in keeping with the founding goals of our club, is to support the arts. This is accomplished through its providing funds in the form of grants to arts-oriented organizations and individuals, presenting events at the club such as concerts and films, and sponsoring an annual music competition. Grant recipients are chosen by the full Board from qualified applications received by a set deadline each spring and fall; applications are available on-line and members are encouraged to invite their favorite groups to apply.

Funds are provided through voluntary contributions from club members and are distributed biannually. Contributions are accepted at any time during the year. Checks made out to The Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation for any amount, as well as inquiries, should be sent directly to the Foundation at the club’s address. All such contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by current revenue laws. Specific information regarding past grants and distributions is available to club members.

During 2008, twelve organizations received grants and monetary awards were given to three winners in the Annual Music Competition. The most recent recipients include:

Emergence Dance Theatre (formerly Dance Chicago), for "The Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation Choreography Award"; The Archimedia Workshop, for a full-length documentary film on architect/planner Daniel Hudson Burnham (a founding member of The Cliff Dwellers); Link's Hall, to provide mentors for participants in their artists in residence program; Victory Gardens Theater, to provide staged readings with professional actors for emerging playwrights; International Music Foundation, to bring classical music programs to students in the Chicago Public Schools; AIA Chicago Foundation, for a short film honoring the winner of their 2008 Lifetime Achievement award: Gertrude Lemp Kerbis, CD '85;

Contemporary Arts Workshop, for a program giving interns at The Art Institute of Chicago work experience in arts management; Redmoon Theater, for their Drama Girls program teaching empowerment through theatrical expression to at-risk teenage girls; Pros Arts Studio, for a workshop giving teens in Pilsen/Little Village the opportunity to explore drawing in a variety of media; Global Explorers, to provide scholarships to children from low-income families to a program exploring the art of different cultures; The Moving Architects, to create a performance project incorporating dance and the architecture of Chicago's Union Station; and The John David Mooney Foundation, in support of their International Apprentice Program.
